Results of “Science&Business Startup Hackathon”: 7 best innovative projects got a chance to realize their ideas

From June 27 to July 2, the USF and the MES held an intensive 6-day Science&Business Startup Hackathon. This is an online event for scientists, startups and entrepreneurs with innovative ideas or existing dual-use projects as part of the Science&Business series regularly held by the Ukrainian Startup Fund and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.

Science&Business Startup Hackathon is held to explore the scientific and innovative potential of scientists, startups, companies, experts, media investors, search for innovative ideas and solutions, raise awareness, marketing, sales, investment and innovation.

The opening of the event on June 27 was attended by Oleksiy Shkuratov, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine for European Integration, Vitaliy Lavrov, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine for Digital Development, Digital Transformation and Digitalization, Yuriy Drachuk, Acting Director of the Ukrainian Startup Fund, Olga Polotska, Executive Director of the National Research Fund of Ukraine and other honored guests.

More than 100 applications from representatives of universities, scientific institutions, students, and the private sector were submitted to participate in the hackathon. It’s three times more than the number of applicants in previous years.

Professional experts selected 7 teams with innovative proposals, technological products, modernized services, which had today’s relevant solutions for the recovery of Ukraine and wanted to gain new experience, knowledge and skills in the leading areas of startup activity for the commercialization of their production.

According to the program, the participants had the opportunity to develop their own ideas with profile mentors, foreign and Ukrainian experts, and presented them at the final pitch to investors and industry experts.

According to the results of the hackathon, the teams received prizes from the partners of the event:

  • Amazon Web Services – $10,000 AWS credits for the development of their innovative projects – for all 7 participating teams.
  • Demium – Mini-program that includes: 1) work with external mentors (5 hours for each startup); 2) open access to initial materials for startups; 3) fast track to meetings with investors and venture funds – for the projects “Mary Poppins”, “ClinCaseQuest” and another project chosen by the team.
  • SkillUp – Mentoring Consultation on Business/Marketing/Management (optional) from the Founder or Top Manager of SkillUP and/or Consultation from the COO (Chief Operating Officer), Top Marketer, Top Project Manager, IT specialists, with experience in position 5 + years each – for the projects “Mary Poppins”, “Heavenly Hedgehog” and “ClinCaseQuest”.
