Innovations for Sustainable Future: Results of the Panel Discussion

On October 6, an online panel discussion on sustainable development and innovations was held. The event was organized by the Ukrainian Startup Fund in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
At the beginning, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine for European Integration Oleksiy Shkuratov and Director of the Ukrainian Startup Fund Pavlo Kartashov welcomed the participants.
The panel discussion was joined by representatives of the national and European ecosystems:
- – Igor Taranov — Director General, Directorate of Science and Innovation, Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine;
- – Michal Gorzynski — Head of Impact Section and Innovation Officer at EIT — European Institute of Innovation and Technology;
- – Roman Puchko — Co-founder of Rethink, expert of the Ukrainian Startup Fund;
- – Lech Kaniuk — CEO of SunRoof International Holding.
Speakers talked about:
- – European experience and prospects for implementing sustainable development goals in Ukraine;
- – Effective management of raw materials to ensure and develop the circular economy;
- – Tools to support sustainable development.
The participants also learned about the case of the Ukrainian startup Sustainable Laboratory producing eco-friendly packaging based on biotechnology.
In addition, during the event, it was announced that the Ukrainian Startup Fund together with EIT Raw Materials are starting a joint pan-European project aimed at developing the raw materials industry and sustainability.
“Integration into the EU implies cooperation between Ukraine and Europe in all directions, including the development of the raw materials industry with the help of innovations. Ukraine has a lot of talented people that are working on innovative solutions in the raw materials sector. At the same time, startup-industry in this field is still not highly developed, so our task is to stimulate the development of innovations in the field of raw materials, circular economy and sustainable development in Ukraine”, — said Pavlo Kartashov.
